By Their Fruit: Patience
You can stop yourself from following someone onto the 410 exit. You cannot change the part of you that wants to.
This message is part of the By Their Fruit series, working through the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5. Today: patience. Not the white-knuckle kind that lasts a week. The kind that grows when the Spirit of God goes after the root of the problem instead of just the behavior.
We start in Exodus 34:6, where God describes himself as slow to anger and filled with unfailing love. That is where patience comes from. Then we dig into the Greek words behind Galatians 5: thymoi (repeated eruptions of anger, the works of the flesh) and macrothymia (the long fuse, the fruit of the Spirit). The law can describe patience, but it has never been able to produce it. Only the Spirit can.
We close with three practical ways to work the soil: praying for wisdom instead of removal, leaning into covenant community, and having patience with your own sanctification. No microwave spirituality. Slow growth is still growth.
